Over the February 17-19 weekend, the Masco Peewee 2 Team competed in the “Deep Freeze” Hockey Tournament held at the Waterville Valley Ice Arena in Waterville, New Hampshire. Masco finished first in the Round Robin portion of the tournament, achieving the top seed in the Final, where they faced a strong team from Needham MA. Even though Masco had beaten Needham 4-2 on Saturday, it was the Needham Team who jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead in the Final. While Masco was able to cut it to 3-1 early in the third period on Joseph Imbornone’s goal, they weren’t able to tie things up, and an open net goal late by Needham sealed the deal. Over 3 hard-fought games, the Masco Chieftains received strong goaltending from Angelo DiFilippo and Cole Esposito, who together had a 2.0 Goals Against Average. The Chieftains also received some strong offensive performances from Thomas Baker (1 goal, 3 assists), Freddie Sordillo (2 goals), Zach Innis (2 assists), and Joseph Imbornone and Andrew Du with a goal apiece. Rounding out the forwards with some strong two-way hockey were Ray Robinson and Ryan Castle. Helping the goalies achieve that 2.00 GAA average were some solid efforts on defense by Mark Arsenault, Shane Hancox, Alex Quealy, and Sam Whiffen. Even though Masco finished as the runners-up, the kids played hard and played like a team, and a good time was had by all.
Check out PeeWee 1 Head Coach Billy Dalton, just 3 days out of knee surgery and back in action. A good reminder of the amount of time, effort, and heart that many people constantly put into Masco Youth Hockey!
