Travel Teams
Skaters (boys and girls) at each of the age levels below may take part in a team program to develop individual and team skills. The Squirt 3 level and above participate in two leagues: the Dual State League and the Valley League. This typically results in two games and one or two practices a week.
-
The Dual State League plays its games at the following rinks: Hockey Town (Saugus), Methuen High School, Hallenborg (Billerica High School), Chelmsford (Tully) Forum, Groton School, Ice Center (Salem NH), Skate 3 (Tyngsboro) and Everett.
-
The Valley League games are played in the Merrimack Valley Forum in Lawrence, Valley Forum II in Malden, Ristuccia Exposition Center in Wilmington, Merrimack College and Brooks School in North Andover, the Pingree School in Hamilton, the Peabody rink and in Exeter, NH.
The Squirt 4 team and younger typically only skates in the Valley League which usually results in three games per month and one or two practices a week. Teams are entered into leagues according to their experience and skill levels. Games are generally scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays although weeknight games are prevalent at the older levels.
MYH practices are typically held at Brooks School, Pingree School, Governor Dummer Academy, Hockeytown and Haverhill.
Skills Sessions
The MASCO Youth Hockey Program is committed to developing the skills of its players. One of the ways in which the program strives to achieve this goal is through a skill program usually developed by outside professionals for the Mite, Squirt and PeeWee levels. Skill sessions would typically cover one of the following: edge control, balance, stopping & starting, acceleration, pivots, crossovers, stick handling & shooting and competition. These sessions are included in your hockey fee and it is strongly recommended that you take advantage of them.
Tournaments
Most teams at the Mite level and above will play in one or more tournaments during the course of the season which are not included in the basic fees of the program. The tournaments usually consist of round-robin play between teams at the same level leading up to a championship game. Fees vary according to the tournament.
